Hey Scott,

I'm the owner of a tech/creative/startup community venue in Lexington, KY called Awesome Inc. We've hosted SW a few months ago here and now we're having a Mobile miniConference on July 18th. There will be speakers from the original facebook mobile, Yahoo!, and speakers on Google Android, Palm Pre, the iPhone. We'll even have a workshop that will walk you through how to build your first iPhone app. We'll also have talks on how mobile will be shaping individual businesses and entire industries.

Just wanted to let you know since you're obviously into the technology scene, mobile will have a HUGE impact on healthcare and you're not that far away from Lex (and this is the only mobile conference (that I've heard of) in the midwest). Also, what ways do you think would be best to get the word out about this in Nashville? Any advice on where to post this info or let people know?

Have a good day, and I hope to see you up here if you can make it!

-Luke

Biography

Scott Kozicki is founder and Chief Executive officer of Truu Health, Inc., a Nashville, TN based provider of integrated health management for small and medium employers.

Mr. Kozicki was most recently the Chief Technology Officer for Healthways (NASDAQ:HWAY), the world’s leading disease and care management service provider. Information technology is intrinsically marbled throughout Healthways, and as CTO, Kozicki was responsible for expanding the infrastructure, operations, planning, and governance of IT from the needs of a $70M organization to that of a $450M organization.

During his three-year tenure, he implemented change control methods and platforms, enabling the business to become Sarbanes-Oxley compliant. He also migrated hardware and software platforms which enabled a 1,200 percent increase in productivity in new customer processing, and he designed the IT strategic roadmap for Healthways’ continued growth. Kozicki served as an adjunct to the corporate development team and was responsible for evaluating and developing new business opportunities, strategies and acquisitions, including Healthways’ entrance into wellness, Medicare, and international markets.

Previously Kozicki was founder and Chief Executive Officer of Factory23, Inc., a Nashville, TN-based data center focused on small and medium sized business IT outsourcing. Factory23 built and operated a 24,000 square foot data center facility in Nashville, the most advanced facility in the state of Tennessee. At its height, Factory23 offered unequalled services in bandwidth, security, and storage to dozens of customers.

From 1998-2000, Kozicki was co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of BlueStar Communications, a Nashville, TN-based DSL broadband Internet provider. BlueStar started with just two employees including Kozicki, and grew to 1,000 employees within 18 months, becoming the largest DSL carrier in the southeastern US. At its height, BlueStar operated in 45 markets, had over 14,000 lines in service, and had the distinction of being the first to bring broadband Internet access to dozens of communities across the south. In 1999, BlueStar set the record in Tennessee for the largest private equity round by a non-manufacturing company when it raised $71M for the Series C round. BlueStar was sold in June, 2000 to Covad Communications (NASDAQ:DVW) for $650M.

Prior to forming BlueStar, Kozicki served as a technology consultant and developer for nearly 10 years, designing and building some of the Internet's earliest sites, including hotwired.com, the SEC's EDGAR database, Service Merchandise's online store, and the first online music retailer.

Things I learned at Startup Weekend Nashville

Just a few quick notes of things I learned this past weekend, and what I will apply when I do it again.

1) You can never have enough developers. Ever. Ever. Ever.
2) Appoint someone on the team as the time keeper. Time is the killer in SW. Tell this person to announce the hours on the hours. If you can rough up a project plan on Friday, have this person own it and hold people accountable to it. I guess what I'm saying is you can never have enough project management. Ever. Ever. Ever.
3) There a… Continue
